Spring Recitals and M.A.M.A. Summer Music Festival

Springcroppeda0293The Spring Recitals will be held on April 16, 2016 in the Recital Hall at Schmitt Music, 7316 W. 119th Street, Overland Park, KS, 66213. Recital A will be held at 1:30 pm and Recital B will be held at 3:00 pm. Recital assignments will be released by March 5, 2016.

Seating in the Recital Hall at Schmitt Music is at a premium. In order for each family to have seating in the best sight area, the studio is implementing a new ticketing policy. There will be a reserved area immediately behind the student seating for which each family will receive 2 reserved seat tickets. This policy will allow parents closer proximity to the stage so they will enjoy an equally fair chance to see and hear their children as comfortably as possible. Additional chairs behind the reserved seating will be open on a first come, first served basis for any additional guests. The tickets will not assign a specific seat so arriving as early as possible will improve your options. There will be a parent volunteer on hand to collect tickets and assist you with seating.

The Spring Recitals will feature many ensemble performances. There are  duets (1 piano 4 hands),two-piano duos, and concerto movements. there will, also, be several solo performances. This is shaping up to be a fun and exciting recital experience. And, happily, the programs will be very reasonable in length!!!

The Mid America Music Association (M.A.M.A.) Summer Music Festival will be held at The Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, MO, July 28 – 31, 2016. I, previously, sent home information on this festival but now is the time to check back with families to see who will want to attend. There is a great deal of preparation work to be done. Decisions need to made now so that music can be chosen and work can commence. In general, families have the option to choose their choice of day and time (morning or afternoon) unless your child will, also, be performing in the Competitive Division or Concerto Division – those programs are scheduled for Friday only. Please notify me with questions or concerns. The deadline for enrollment is April 30, 2016. I should receive checks for the fees by April 20, 2016. I will, then, send one check from the studio to cover all registration and enrollment fees.

The Piano Solo Division is non-competitive. Each student performs, memorized, one solo chosen from the Required Repertoire List and, then, one solo of their choice. There is no audience for Piano Solo Division performances. Students receiving 95%, or higher, will receive a trophy. Piano Solo Division can be scheduled on any of the days of the festival as you choose.

The Competitive Event and Concerto Event require participation in the Piano Solo Division. Each competing student will perform one additional selection from the Required List within their level category. Family members are invited to listen as audience members for this event.

Fees for the M.A.M.A. Festival are, as follows:

  • Teacher Fee $25.00 per student*
  • Piano Solo $28.00 (no audience)
  • Competitive $25.00 (audience allowed)
  • Concerto $35.00 (audience allowed)

*The Teacher Fee is required for enrollment in any event

I have already received a large number of enrollments for M.A.M.A. in all categories: Solo, Competition, and Concerto. This is always a fun event and a great time for a family trip as well as an opportunity for participation and accomplishment for the students. My understanding is that reserved rooms are filling up fast at the lodge. Here is the contact and location information for Lodge of the Four Seasons:

Address: 315 Four Seasons Dr, Lake Ozark, MO, 65049
This event is a great event for students of all ages, at all levels. It is structured, not only for more advanced students, but for the very youngest beginners, as well.
