Piano Lessons – Summer Policies

As we enter the last 6 weeks of the 2016 – 2017 school year, it is a good time to review summer piano lessons and lesson policies. As is stated in the Studio Policy Statement, the Aine Wendler Piano Studio is a year-round studio and each monthly tuition installment is not a payment for lessons in that month, but an installment on the total tuition for a 40-lesson year. I wish I could teach just for the fun of it, and afford losses of hundreds of dollars per month, but, I cannot. Therefore, it is the policy of this studio that I cannot reserve lesson times for unpaid time slots. Families not wishing to pay their installment during extended traveling, or if they choose to take a “break” over the summer, must understand that I will have to open the waiting list and give that time to new students. Lesson times paid for in advance of the absence will be reserved. This has been a firm policy for many years and I appreciate the understanding, willingness, and cooperation of my student families in honoring that policy.

As always, there will be an “end-of-the-school-year-break”, May 22 – June 1, 2017, with the summer schedule commencing on June 2, 2017. The studio will be closed, July 3 and 4, 2017 for the Independence Day holiday. And, then, the “end-of-summer-break” will be, August 21 – September 4, 2017, with the new, 2017 – 2018 studio year commencing on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

The following dates are the upcoming events through the end of 2017.

  • 7/28 – 30/2017 – Mid America Music Association (M.A.M.A.) Summer Music Festival at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, Kansas City,
  • 9/10/2017 – Federated Music Teachers of Kansas City Fall Honors Recital – this studio has a record 9 students who have been invited to perform based on their ratings and performances of distinction over the last year. Those students are: Elliott Kraus, Maria Sierra, Sophie Yagan, Abby Bleish, Andy Wilson, Jonathan Weng, Andrew Johnson, Emma Wang, and Danielle Tyler.
  • 9/24/2017 – MMTA District Auditions, UCM, Warrensburg, MO
  • 10/14 – 15/2017 – KCMTA Fall Festival, Mid America Nazarene University
  • 11/5/2017 – MMTA State Competitions, UCM, Warrensburg, MO
  • 11/20 – 26/2017 – Thanksgiving Break
  • 12/3/2017 – December Recitals, Mid America Nazarene University
  • 12/9/2017 – Holiday Performance at Senior Facility TBA
  • 12/18/2017 – 1/2/2018 – Holiday Break

This has been a very rewarding, yet challenging, year. Injuries, illness, and prolonged recovery times have caused me to realize that I cannot continue to work six full days with only one day off, every week. Effective June 1, 2017, I will no longer be teaching on Saturdays. I am fully committed to working with every student to find the best possible time for them Monday through Fridays for the summer and, then, ongoing into the future.

Summer schedules are forming now. I am nearly filled all day/evening on Mondays through the summer and am opening the full day and evening on Thursdays, as well. Tuesdays and Wednesdays will begin at 3 pm and go until 9 pm with Friday running from 3 pm until 6:15 pm. Please see me as soon as possible when you know how you want to schedule piano lessons for summer.

I wish to express my appreciation to every family who is part of this studio and to your wonderful children for, not only their efforts in learning, but for the light and joy they bring with them. This has been a stellar year and I only see it getting more so as we move forward. Thank you!!!
