Kicking Off the 2015-2016 Studio Year

With the Labor Day holiday now finished, the Aine Wendler Piano Studio is kicking off the 2015-2016 studio year. I can feel that this is going to be a busy, productive year. My goal is that my students and I will work together to achieve the goals we have set and will, hopefully, have some fun along the way!!!

The first item I would like to mention is that our Winter Recital is Saturday, December 5, 2015. It will be held at the Schmitt Music Recital Hall at Rosana Square in Overland Park, Kansas. There will be two recitals that day. Recital A will begin at 1:45 pm and Recital B will begin at 3:30 pm.

The guidelines for recitals are very important – these guidelines are structured so that every student is granted respect and attention with all of the courtesy and recital etiquette that their work deserves. These guidelines are, as follows:

  • Students must arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the recital. Late arrivals are very disruptive to the students and the families in the audience.
  • Early departures are emphatically discouraged. This is one of only two studio recitals held over a year. Early departures are, as noted above, disruptive to the students and to the audience members. Please arrange this date accordingly and plan to stay for the whole program – there is an award ceremony at the conclusion of the program and group pictures will be taken. There have been cases where early departures have resulted in the forfeiture of the student’s time slot on the studio schedule. Any special needs should be brought to my attention as early as possible so that the issue can be addressed in the most graceful, least disruptive way possible.
  • Recital dress, while not formal, should be “dress-up” – attire should be in keeping with the idea of a special occasion.
  • Audience conversation should be kept to a very quiet minimum. We had a startling incident, last year, where some family members were very critical and sarcastic about some of the students performing. This must NEVER Any situation of this nature will result in immediate forfeiture of enrollment in this studio
  • If there is any need to leave the room during the program, or re-enter, please wait until the child performing is finished and you hear applause.

The recital assignments have been made. Please contact me as soon as possible if the recital assignment will not work:

This Sunday, September 13, 2015, is the Federated Music Teachers of Kansas City Fall Honors Recital. This program is held in the Recital Hall at Schmitt Music at 2:00 pm. The following students will be performing:  Andrew Johnson, Jasmine Henry, Elijah Lillie, Andy Wilson, and Emma Wang.  Each of these students will be performing one of their pieces that they have been preparing for MMTA District and State Auditions and Competition, and KCMTA Fall Festival.

MMTA District Auditions will be held at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO, on Sunday, September 27. The following students will be participating at District:  Andrew Johnson, Clare Lappin, Sophie Yagan, Andy Wilson, Abby Bleish, Danielle Tyler, Paula Sweeny, Jasmine Henry, Elijah Lillie, and Emma Wang. All students receiving a I at District will go on to MMTA State Competitions at Southeast Missouri State University, in Cape Girardeau, MO, on November 8, 2015.

KCMTA Fall Festival – participating student list is currently being finalized. Fall Festival will be held on the weekend of October 24 and 25, 2015 at Mid-America Nazarene University.

Other dates of note:

I had planned to take my second week of the end-of-summer break as I did last year when I was traveling in October. Due to judging commitments and student competitions, this has been amended. I will be taking off Thursday – Sunday, October 8-11, 2015, for traveling to present Master Classes and to serve as an adjudicator.  Then, Saturday-Wednesday, November 7-11, 2015, I will be traveling to Cape Girardeau with my students who will be performing at State Competitions that weekend and then on to Nashville for a subsequent student commitment.  Except for Saturday, November 7, these dates fill the week carried over from the previously scheduled break at the end of August. For all Saturday students not participating at State, I will offer make-up lesson opportunities.

November 23-29, 2015 is Thanksgiving Break and December 21, 2015-January 3, 2016 is the Holiday Break. These breaks are factored into the studio tuition schedule and do not qualify for credits or make-up lessons.

I am looking forward to an amazing year of great work, lots of fun, and the joy of working with your children. I always take your trust in me as a teacher, and your support of this studio, very seriously and I am grateful for that. Happy Fall to everyone!!!
