A Guide to Piano Practice

As a piano teacher, I am always telling my students to practice. Practice more. Meet your goal. Write your time down in your practice diary. And so and so on. It has occurred to me lately that my students don’t need me to tell them to practice nearly as much as they need guidance on “how” to practice. Helping them with the “how-to” will bring about the learning needed to accomplish systematic progress. Setting a Practice Goal is important. I have a fundamental issue with quantifying practice. For example, the needed goal might be 30 minutes per day but, really,...

Piano Lessons – Summer Policies

As we enter the last 6 weeks of the 2016 – 2017 school year, it is a good time to review summer piano lessons and lesson policies. As is stated in the Studio Policy Statement, the Aine Wendler Piano Studio is a year-round studio and each monthly tuition installment is not a payment for lessons in that month, but an installment on the total tuition for a 40-lesson year. Therefore, it is the policy of this studio that I cannot reserve lesson times for unpaid time slots. Families not...

From the Studio, With Heartfelt Gratitude

It is with heartfelt gratitude that I am writing this studio entry. I was deeply moved by the presentations at each recital on December 4, 2016. I am so appreciative of the kindness and generosity I received from the families of this studio. I want you to know that, because of you, every cent of the recital hall rental was covered. Not only for the recital on December 4 but, additionally, for the recital that is scheduled for Sunday, April 2, 2017. There is a substantial amount remaining to go toward next December’s recital. It is difficult to adequately express how thankful David and I feel...
